TELL US ABOUT YOUR SPORTS & FITNESS BACKGROUND:

Sports and Fitness Background: I played soccer almost my entire life from 4 years old to 35 years old. I've always loved trying different sports and fitness activities like swimming, playing tennis, yoga, and distance running, but my true passion was always soccer. While I always understand the importance of weightlifting, I never really knew what to do in the gym.

HOW DID YOU FIRST HEAR ABOUT SCORCH?:

I went to the gym to workout with my roommate as he used to be a personal trainer. While at the gym, he introduced me to Liz who it turns out used to work at IMG with a very good friend of mine, Eric. Eric knew I had been looking for a gym where I could get the strength training I needed under proper guidance combined with the cardio workouts I love as a soccer player. Liz told me that she was opening Scorch soon, and Eric told me I had to give it a try.

TAKE US BACK TO YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCORCH... HOW DID YOU FEEL? HOW DO YOU COMPARE IT TO WORKOUTS TODAY?:

First workout at Scorch: I was a little intimidated the first time I walked into Scorch. I need I could handle the cardio and my legs were strong from playing soccer, but I did not have a strong upper body and have always felt a little out of place in gyms because I simply didn't know what I was doing. I'd recently had a bad experience with the personal training at a national chain, so I was hopefully I'd finally get the guidance I'd been looking for.

Compared to Workouts Today: The workouts are just as challenging as when I first came into Scorch; however, I'm much stronger now. Mentally, I've gotten used to the routine of the workouts so I'm able to push through them, but I'm still wiped out when they are over.

WHAT SORT OF CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN IN YOUR BODY, HEALTH AND FITNESS SINCE STARTING AT SCORCH (BEFORE/AFTER)?:

Changes in body, health, and fitness: I wish I'd taken a picture of myself before I started working out at Scorch. Despite being in "shape" when I started, my body has changed drastically. My legs are stronger than ever. I almost have abs haven't looked like this since soccer season my senior year of high school when I was 17. As for my upper body, I used to not like wearing tank tops because I had a weak upper body. Now, I fill out a tank top. My chest, shoulders, and arms have never looked this good. My father - a retired physician - has even commented to me that I haven't been in this good of shape since I was 17 except I look a lot stronger now.

WHAT SORT OF CHANGES IN YOUR LIFE HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED OUT OF TAKING ON SOMETHING LIKE SCORCH THAT WERE TOTALLY UNEXPECTED?:

Changes in life experienced that was unexpected: When I started working out at Scorch, I expected to get stronger and to get into better shape. What I did not expect was to find a community of people to encourage and support me not only in the gym but in my life outside of the gym. Scorch is more than a place go workout to get physically stronger or lose weight, it's a community of people who encourage and support each other to improve our lives physically, mentally, and emotionally.

WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO SOMEONE WHO IS JUST STARTING OUT WITH SCORCH OR IS TOO AFRAID TO TRY IT?

For people just starting out at Scorch, I recommend that they not compare themselves to the members who have been coming on a regular basis. We all struggled when we first started at Scorch, so you should expect to struggle too. However, we will encourage you and help you get through it.

For people who are too afraid to try or think they need to get in better shape before starting at Scorch, I would tell them those feelings of fear or inadequacy are lies you tell yourself. There are members at Scorch of all ages and fitness levels. If you want to see real results, feel better about yourself, have more energy, manage stress better, and meet other people who want the same for themselves and who will encourage and support you along the way, you have to try Scorch.
